Viamar's ferry to Berlenga is a summer service. The 2026 season is over, and no sailings are published before 8 May 2027; the 2027 season then runs until 30 September. The boat, the Cabo Avelar Pessoa, takes up to 180 passengers from Peniche Marina, next to the fortress, and Viamar puts the crossing at about 45 minutes.
The timetable thickens as summer goes on. From 8 May to 4 June there is one sailing a day: out of Peniche at 11:00, back from the island at 17:00. From 5 June to 9 July and from 6 to 30 September weekdays keep that single pair, while Saturdays and Sundays get two, at 10:00 and 12:00 out and 16:00 and 18:00 back. From 10 July to 5 September the two-sailing pattern runs every day.
Whatever the date, the ferry ticket does not let you ashore on its own. Everyone landing on Berlenga needs a BerlengasPass from the ICNF, Portugal's nature conservation institute, and the fee is paid separately.

Viamar's 2027 season, 8 May – 30 September 2027; 2026 season finished · checked 30 October 2026 Viamar – Schedules 2027 · 2026-10-30
Two separate payments: the boat and the island permit
Viamar sells online through its booking system, and prices vary by date and ticket. On 30 October 2026 the system showed the fares for opening day, including handling charges, and listed infants up to 2 as free. Viamar's home page advertises 'from €19.90'; the table below uses the booking-system figures, which are the ones that include those charges.
The ICNF permit is bought separately on the BerlengasPass website: €3 per person per day, half price for visitors older than 6 and younger than 18 and for those aged 65 or over. Children up to 6 pay nothing but still need a pass; residents of the Peniche municipality are exempt.
| Adult (over 11) | €21.03 |
| Child aged 3 to 11 | €12.57 |
| Standard fee, per person per day | €3 |

Checking in and landing
Peniche Marina is where every Viamar trip starts. On Berlenga the same landing stage is used for arrivals and departures.
Peniche Marina
Check-in is at the passenger and luggage boarding area in the marina, marked by a CHECK-IN flag or uniformed Viamar staff. Viamar suggests arriving 45 minutes early (an hour for groups); its terms set a 30-minute minimum, and anyone not at the boarding gate 5 minutes before departure loses the ticket. There is parking nearby.
Berlenga landing
The boat ties up at the island's landing stage, where you also board for the trip back and for the cave tour. On a return ticket Viamar allows up to five hours ashore.
Peniche Marina to the Berlenga landing
The Peniche pin marks Viamar's boarding point in the marina by the fortress; the island pin marks the Berlenga landing stage. Both positions come from OpenStreetMap. Viamar gives the crossing as 40 to 45 minutes.
Before you book
- Get the BerlengasPass first
Each visitor needs a pass from berlengaspass.icnf.pt. One registered account can issue up to 6 passes.
- Foot passengers
The boat carries passengers; Viamar's pages say nothing about vehicles, so leave a hire car in Peniche.
- Luggage limits
Backpacks and small cases are fine, up to 2 items per person plus 1 piece of hand luggage. Ring 911 001 099 beforehand for anything bulky.
- No pets
Animals are not allowed on board, except guide dogs with advance notice.
- Swell and seasickness
Sailings can be called off for strong wind, heavy swell or a port closure, with a refund or free rebooking. Viamar suggests bringing seasickness tablets if you need them.
- Paying
Online by Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, MB Way, PayPal or Linkpay; at the desk by card, Apple Pay, MB Way or cash.
Permits and the 550-person cap
The permit system has applied since 1 June 2022. A government order of 2019 caps the number of people on the island at any one time at 550, and Viamar warns that summer weekends sell out weeks ahead, so a booking for July or August is best made early.
Viamar says it has been running the crossing since 1958. The ICNF also licenses other transport and boat-trip operators in the reserve, each with its own times and prices; this page covers only Viamar's sailings from Peniche Marina.
